Walk for Freedom
A Sponsored walk along the Ridgeway path in aid of Uncontacted tribesBetween Friday 5th September and Sunday 7th September we will be walking the Ridgeway path from Ivinghoe Beacon in Bedfordshire to Overton Hill and then Avebury Stone Circle in Wiltshire to raise money for Survival International's Campaign "Uncontacted Tribes" If you would like to join us please email Sunbird for an sponsorship form and list of items you will need to bring along with some "training" advice to prepare yourself for the walk. The Ridgeway runs for 85miles (136 Kilometers) across some of the most beautiful scenery in Southern England. From the chalk ridges of the Chiltern hills to the village and mighty stone circle of Avebury. We will take three full days to walk the path stopping each night to camp. We begin walking at 9am and finish at 7pm stopping for lunch and breaks and for a well deserved pint in the Red Lion at the end. The walk is relatively easy and relies more on endurance than skill. During the walk we will have the opportunity to visit some of the ancient site along the path such as Wayland's Smithy an ancient burial chamber now named for the Anglo saxon version of Odhinn, and Uffington White Horse, a pre-celtic hill carving which dominates the view in the vale of the white horse, Oxfordshire.
